York Conservation Trust is seeking a volunteer Trustee with strong accountancy or senior finance experience to join its Board. This is an opportunity to help guide the financial governance of a charity responsible for a significant portfolio of historic buildings across York and North Yorkshire

The successful candidate will provide strategic financial oversight, helping the Board review budgets, financial forecasts, annual accounts, risk management, audit arrangements and investment decisions. The role is particularly important as the Trust embarks on an ambitious ten-year programme of conservation, repair and adaptation across its estate.

The Trust is looking for a qualified accountant or someone with substantial senior-level finance experience who can bring sound judgement, constructive challenge and a strong understanding of financial management and governance.

As a Trustee, you will work alongside a diverse Board of professionals, contributing to strategic decision-making and helping to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organisation. The role focuses on governance and oversight rather than day-to-day financial management, which remains the responsibility of the Trust’s executive team.

The position offers an opportunity to apply professional expertise in support of one of the region’s leading heritage organisations. Trustees will help shape decisions around major capital projects, the future use of historic buildings, and the effective stewardship of financial resources to protect and enhance York’s built heritage for future generations.

Applicants should be confident in analysing complex financial information and communicating key issues clearly to colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds. Experience of audit, financial controls, risk management, investment oversight or treasury matters would be particularly valuable.
